For hair colour, is blonde dominant over black and/or brown or is it the other way around?

My family consists of brunettes (all having dark brown hair and a Chinese girl married to my nephew and she has raven black hair). But my sister (brunette) had twins about two years ago and they both have blonde hair. Her husband and his parents are brunette as well.

This is one thing I DO remember from science class.

BB = dominant brown

Bb = Brown/Blonde recessive

bb = blonde dominant

Let's say for conversation sake that your sister has the gene BB. This makes her a dominant brown which means that if her husband was also a BB that their children would definitely have BROWN hair. But because their children have blonde hair she and her husband must have the gene Bb. The children had a 50/50 chance of which hair color they'd inherit. Just so happens they ended up with blonde.

Just because both parents have brown hair and so do their parents doesn't mean much as far as the children's hair is concerned. Your sister and him have traits that have been passed on through thousands of years of lineage and I guarantee somewhere down the line one of their ancestors had blonde hair.

Then again, hair changes. My mother's hair went from blonde, to dirty blonde, to red, and then to brown all before she was 18.

I had blonde hair till I was 10 now I'm a light brown.....

Blonde must be a recessive gene, sorry, I'm to lazy to google it...

Dark hair, like dark eyes, are dominant. The lighter hair color and lighter eyes are recessive. Also, just because the twins have blonde hair now, doesn't mean that they will when they are grown. My daughter had blonde hair, until she was about 6-7. She is now 21 with gorgeous chesnut colored hair. I have green eyes, her dad had blue eyes, My mother has brown eyes, my daughters eyes are the same color as my mothers.

If u'r talking of genes then it could be either way not necessarily be from direct lineage and could be from granys etc.

whatever is darker, will always be dominant.

Blond is a recessive trait! That's the wonder of genetics,,both parents must be carrying that recessive trait. ;-)=

Usually, the darker the color, the more dominant. However, it's possible for a latent gene of any color to appear in any generation.

I read in an article (don't remember what mag) that brown is the most dominate hair color. Also in like 20 years or so from now blonde and red hair will almost be completely breed out except in a few cases where the blonde or red gene becomes dominate.
