The end color was a greenish brown...Should I go to the store and buy a box of dye for light blonde hair and see what happens? Or should I go to a salon and have it professionally fixed? I'm just on a budget and don't have a lot to spend. Is this fixeable with a box dye from the store?

I own a hair salon and have done hair for 21 years. It sounds like your hair may have been a very light blonde - perhaps bleached - and the porosity caused it to grab the base color of the ash (which is green). Go back to Sally's and get Clairol Compliments color - semi permanent (actually it's referred to as demi in this brand) to make sure you like the outcome because it comes in both permanent and semi - you need a neutral or blue or blue violet base color to counter the ash without having brassiness. Depending on how light you want to go I would choose 9N or 10N. These are both neutral base toned colors. You can also buy a little additive called a RG corrector to put in the color. It will make the color look purplish while it processes, but this is to counter brassiness and your hair will not be purple in the end. Make sure you use equal amounts of the color (it's in a tube - one tube = 2 ounces) and semi permanent prompter (2 ounces). You might also invest in some porosity control conditioner (they have sample sizes pretty cheap) and wash your hair, condition with the porosity control, then dry it before you apply the new color. Since you have the problem that you do, apply the color all over at once rather than only at the roots, and process it for about 15 minutes (for semi-permanent) with no heat. You should be good as new in the next hour!
To the one who is needing to tone down over bleached hair (Felicia I think?) - try using a soap cap. Choose a color about two shades darker than what you have (avoid gold or ash - stick with neutral tones) and mix about 1/2 oz each of the color, developer (20 volume), and shampoo. Leave it on your hair for up to 30 minutes, but watch it, sometimes 10 is enough time to tone it down. Rinse and condition, then you're all finished.

Oh I wish you had asked about the Ash Blonde BEFORE you did it!! I had the same thing happen years ago and you should never use an ash shade because for whatever reason hair does get a green tinge to it. Don't try and fix it yourself as it will only make it worse....go to a professional!!

You should never dye your hair. Natural hair color is the best way to go. You should be happy with what god gave you, and accept your natural hair color. People who dye their hair drive me crazy.
Just let it grow out, cut off the weird color, and be happy with what you have, and dont try to change it.

If you used it on natural unprocessed hair, I'd contact the manufacturer if the product is at fault. If you used it on dyed blonde hair, I would try to get something with a golden tone to it to counteract the green. Don't use another permenant on top though ! you'll ruin it. Look for those wash in wash out sachets. Good luck, I've just overbleached mine and am trying to find something to tone it down !

going to a salon would be best but if you are on a budget,check the box you used last night,there should be an 800# for questions about the product.They should be able to help but as I said,a pro would be best,if you get an appt., bring the box you used so he/she can best decide how to fix your hair.Good luck!

For the problem with the ash blonde, call the company and ask what they recommend to fix the problem. Don't as Squishy would have you, wear the green hair like a Scarlett Letter until it grows out and then hack your hair. You should be able to fix it with color or even contact your local beauty school and see if they can fix it. It would be cheaper and they are supervised so it really couldn't be worse than what you have now. So sorry for the color mix up, I think we all do that at least once, but it is fixable and have fun with your hair and your life! Good luck.

ive been dying my own hair for years, basically you need to counteract the green with an opposite color like red.
you can fix your problem by going to the store and buying a red blonde dye and using it over the color you just put on your hair. the red will mix with the green and make a nuetural blonde.
